To The East I Summon Horus

The Hawk Of The Sun
To Guide Me

According to the British Museum pocket version of Horus. It reads:

The hawk-god Horus is the manifestation of divine kingship.

The title "Horus", first used on royal monuments five thousand years ago, is the earliest way of describing the pharoah. The wife of Horus is the goddess Hathor. In another tradition, Horus is a sun-god depicted in many tombs and temples as a solar disc with a hawk's wings.

Horus is the child of Osiris and Isis and in his early years is vulnerable to attacks by the usurper Seth. After an 80-year struggle, he becomes the rightful ruler of Egypt. In one episode in the violent conflict, Seth cuts out the eyes of Horus but these are restored by the magic of the goddess Hathor. The 'Eye of Horus' is a powerful amulet. Known as the Wadjet Eye, it stands for soundness and perfection and protects everything, which is why it is so common in jewellery, on coffins or on Nile boats. The best-preserved temple in Egypt at Edfu is dedicated to Horus.
